Water not flowing properly and how to fix
Been using these water filters for years. Bought two from Amazon – I usually get them at Home Depot – and installed the first one. A. It was difficult to install into the holder. B. When it was installed, the water flow was very weak to the point of being non existent. I removed the first filter and tried the second, same problem. Went to You Tube with my problem and the video said to trim some of the plastic off the small prong. See picture. I trimmed it and it now works like it’s supposed to. I checked the Amazon troubleshooting guide, but I didn’t see this mentioned on the steps to take to troubleshoot the filter.

Substitutes simply aren’t as good as this one.
I’ve purchased knock-offs and it’s easy to tell the difference: your water will taste much better with this Whirlpool filter. Keep an eye on the item because it goes on sale now and then for significantly less. Last time I bought two for less than $40 each.

A great filter. No issues with purchase, delivery, installation, and use. Had preliminary concerns after reading some of the comments on the Amazon.com website with relation to it being a downgrade from its predecessor model and the bad taste of its water. However, this is not the case as the filter was of good physical quality while water dispensed had no noticeable undesired taste or scent. Using the water for my drip drop coffee the next day had a marked improvement of my brew! Would recommend, especially I had previously tried (and subsequently returned) generic replacement filters – a night and day result. Also note that it is also compatible with Kenmore side-by-sides that uses 9030 (which is also the Whirlpool 4396710).
